With Pewenche sisters Sonia and Mónica Vita, and community member Luis Crespi Manquepi, we have a documentation team called Inapünon, which in Mapudungun means 'following a footprint'. We are interested in developing collaborative documentation projects within the Araucanian sphere.
Projects
1. The Pehuenche Summerlands: Documenting Chedungun (funded by the Endangered Languages Documentation Programme, SG0574). This project aims to document a varying set of communicative events surrounding a migratory journey of a Pewenche family through the Andean valleys of Butalelbún, Alto Biobío, Chile. It is an approximation to Chedungun, a Mapudungun dialect spoken by approximately 5000 speakers along the Queuco valley. The central aim of the project is to capture the Pewenche transitional lifestyle. Audio-video recordings will register both naturally occurring and elicited speech events, before, during and after the seasonal ascent to the 'veranadas' (Pewenche's sacred summer grasslands). In close collaboration with linguist Sonia Vita, approximately 15 hours of audiovisual material has been already deposited at the Endangered Languages Archive (SOAS, University of London). Due to the pandemic, the project is currently entering a self-documentation phase, conducted by native field assistant Mónica Vita Manquepi.
